Chair funding - Excellence in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
Description
The Canada Research Chair in Epistemic Injustice and Agency offers a scholarship for excellence in equity, diversity and inclusion (EID) at each cycle level (bachelor's, master's, doctorate). This scholarship is designed to support individuals from groups under-represented in philosophy and academia (women, LGBTQIA2+ people, racialized people, Aboriginal people, people with disabilities and/or in situations of material/financial insecurity) whose interests and research projects relate to EDI or to the Chair's research themes (see the Chair's website: https://crc-iae.com). These scholarships are primarily intended for students enrolled in Philosophy at UQAM, whether they are supervised by the Chairholder or by another professor in UQAM's Philosophy Department. However, anyone registered at UQAM who is (co-)supervised by the Chairholder for their thesis may apply (see Eligibility section). NB: All students enrolled in Philosophy at UQAM, whether or not they are members of the Chair, are eligible to apply. Each recipient of an EDI Excellence Award undertakes to participate in and contribute actively and regularly to the Chair's activities.
Amount of the EDI Excellence Scholarship in 2024-25
- Bachelor's degree: $1,000 ($500 fall, $500 winter)
- Master's degree: $2,500 ($1250 fall, $1250 winter)
- Doctorate: $5,000 ($2,500 fall, $2,500 winter)
Eligibility
- Bachelor's degree: be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in philosophy at UQAM (full-time or part-time) in 2024-25; have interests or projects related to the research themes of the Chair or the ÉDI (see point 3 in the Dossier section below).
- Master's degree: be enrolled in a Master's degree in philosophy at UQAM (full-time or part-time) in 2024-25 and have identified a thesis project related to the research themes of the Chair or EDI; or be (co-)directed by the Chairholder for the dissertation in 2024-25.
- Doctorate: be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in philosophy at UQAM (full-time or part-time) in 2024-25 and have identified a dissertation project in line with the Chair's research themes. or EDI; or be (co-)supervised by the Chairholder for the dissertation or an internship in 2024-25
Application to be submitted (only complete applications will be considered) :
- Grades transcripts for diplomas obtained and in progress. An unofficial version will suffice.

Academic CV, i.e. a short document indicating all that applies in your case among the following points (or any other point you deem relevant): training and diplomas obtained and in progress, participation in summer schools/institutes, scholarships and awards obtained, research or creative activities, participation in committees and associations, commitment or leadership activities, participation in EDI projects or initiatives. NB : It's normal for an undergraduate CV to be relatively short, since you're often still at the beginning of your academic career.

NB : These interests or projects may be academic or other in nature (e.g. community involvement, participation in a committee or association, creation of a website, production of a podcast, etc.) - as long as you demonstrate a link with the research themes of the Chair or EDI. Cover letter, maximum 1 page, single-spaced, indicating
(a) how affiliation with the Chair would benefit your research interests and projects;
(b) how you would contribute to the Chair's activities; (c) any other matter relevant to your interests and commitment to EDI and/or the evaluation of your file. If you are a master's or doctoral student. If you are a master's or doctoral student, (d) if applicable, also indicate the scholarships for which you are applying this year (e.g. FRQSC, SSHRC) as well as the funding already obtained for 2024-25 (scholarship, adjunct contract, course load, etc.). vos intérêts et projets de recherche;
Selection criteria
- Academic excellence (grade point average, awards and scholarships, etc.).
- The relevance of the research interests or project to the Chair and the EDI.
- For master's and doctoral scholarships: priority will be given to students at the start of their studies and/or applying this year for graduate scholarships (master's or doctoral) from granting agencies such as the FRQSC and SSHRC (please note that the Chair will be able to guide you through this process if necessary).
